There is a wonderful child at my church who, like me, loves rainbows. Rainbows are an arc of colored light in the sky caused by refraction of the sun’s rays by rain. Rainbows are usually seen at the conclusion of a great rain. God created the rainbow towards the end of the story of the worldwide flood in Genesis 6:9. After several months of interesting events, God’s judgment was restrained and the rain was stopped, resulting in a rainbow in the sky. The rainbow was a promise to Noah to serve as a covenant with Himself and every living creature on the earth.
The rainbow has 7 colors, each with their own significant meaning. The purple symbolizes royalty, majesty, the kingdom, inheritance, and authority. The indigo symbolizes the barrier between Creation, which includes time, and heaven, where the Lord lives in eternity. The blue signifies grace, mercy, the River of Life, revelation, hope and God’s passion. The green symbolizes healing, restoration, new beginnings, prosperity, Throne Room and flourishing. The yellow symbolizes faith and glory of God, anointing and joy. The orange symbolizes the fire of God, harvest, fruitfulness and the warrior. The red symbolizes the Blood of Christ, warfare, consuming fire, forgiveness and the Blood Covenant.
So the next time you see a rainbow, take pride in the truth that God has not forgotten His covenant with His people and that each color represents God Himself and all of His many benefits to us.
